A REVIEW ON SPATIAL ORGANIZATION OF E-RETAIL AND ITS IMPACT ABROAD |

Abstract In the 90s of twenty century,information and communication technologies are the greatest invention in the world. The impact generated by it in modern society is deep and wide. The influence is still varying with the development of those technologies. The most obvious is that internet application is changing our life style,including where and how to work,shopping,and entertainment and so on. An important trend drawing public attention is that more and more retailers are connecting to the Internet. Some people,who are called e-retailers,sale their goods via internet,commercial activity is shifting to e-tail from traditional retail. Since the late 90s in twenty century,e-retail raised an academic discussion among geographers abroad,which is about realizing the relationship between internet and geography. They discuss geographic significance again in the internet age. Based on available foreign literatures,the paper reviews geographical researches on response and changes of commercial space and other activities' space which e-retail induces. In addition,the article evaluates literatures reviewed above in terms of space scale,objects and contents. Firstly,geographers aboard often analyze relevant issues at the national level. It may need studies in other level. For stakeholders in the region and local,they interest in more specific about how the commerce is changing in where they live. Secondly,most researches center on big online retailers and the impact of e-commerce in big traditional retailers. Actually,small retailers play an important role in our life. We need realize how small traditional retailers response e-commerce,and the performance of small e-retailers in physical space. Thirdly,the location of e-retailers and factors influencing their location are still unclear. It need make further researches. Forthly,some literatures mention the influence of internet application,for example,e-shopping and teleworking,in residence. They point out it may change the distribution of residential community. But it lack empirical research. Maybe it will gradually form in a long time. We demand further observe.
